On the other hand, despite the undeniable progress of international trade and financial flows, most of the activity is carried out within countries, or within economic mega blocks, such as the European Union or the Free Trade Agreement of America. North (NAFTA).
The advance of globalization has also been hampered by major wars (first and second world wars), as well as economic crises of a hemispheric nature. Likewise, protectionist and discriminatory policies, practiced by affluent nations, prevent most countries from actively participating in commercial and financial exchanges; that is, they fail to globalize, and if they do so it is only through the transnationals resident in their enclave economies.
The material support of globalization is the deepening of the international division of labor, where the predominance corresponds to a handful of highly developed countries. The advances of the most backward countries are determined by the presence of foreign capital in their economies, which has been perfecting an appendicular insertion scheme, where strategic decisions are taken from outside by transnational companies and their countries of origin. Under these conditions, any possibility of independent development is increasingly difficult.
